" sudo dpkg -configure -a" and " sudo apt-get install -yes -force-yes -f", or " sudo apt-get install -f", are commands to fix and or finish updating, or to finish installing some software where the installation was interrupted for whatever reason. Could you explain the commands you suggested for repairing SPM or install software from terminal? I suppose I am uneasy about trying anything that includes "force yes" without understanding it first.
